Curacao Partners with the Netherlands with New Gambling Law

To ensure that Curaçao's recently passed National Ordinance on Gambling (LOK) is properly implemented, the Netherlands and Curaçao have declared their intention to work together. The law aims to prevent money laundering, improve supervision, and confront endemic corruption when it comes into force on 24 December 2024. The ability of the Curaçaoan administration to implement these new regulations has been called into question by recent controversies.

Italy's New Gambling Law

The Italian government has addressed Malta's concerns over its forthcoming gaming bill by rebutting its complaints and saying it will proceed with further concessions over the next several weeks. The administration maintains that the new law combines current laws to clarify technical standards and expectations and fully follows EU principles.

The Reorganisation Decree is the first regulatory review of the country's gambling legislation since online gambling was legalized in 2011. New laws that aim to simplify licensing procedures, prevent illegal activity, protect players (especially minors), and raise more money for government programs and social initiatives will significantly change Italy's gambling scene.

Draftkings' surcharge a warning to legislators?

A couple of weeks ago, Draftkings announced that they will be implementing a surcharge on winning bets in certain states. Specifically these are states that have very steep tax rates. Was this a standard reaction or do you think this is a precautionary warning of sorts for legislators to not be too harsh when taxing gambling profits?

Do you think People in Missouri will bet in favor of legal sports betting?

I just saw that Missouri was able to put on the ballot for November the option to make sports betting legal. After so many attempts, I am wondering if they will be able to do it if the decision is made by voters. I hope that they do since they have a lot of sports teams. The only problem is that only 38.3% of prospective voters would support a measure for sports betting, while 35.4% would turn it down. Another 26.3% of poll respondents are undecided about whether or not to support a sports balloting measure.

Illinois has failed to get bills out of the committee level for both the house and senate. Is this something that always happens in Illinois- are they very conservative about this? Or do you think its the terms of the bill they have a problem with? Its just quite odd that this is happening in both chambers, I am wondering if there is more to this.

Online Gambling in the US

When the US was given federal rights to legalize and regulate sports betting in the country, there was quite a steady momentum to allow sports betting- online sports betting specifically. But why is it that when we are talking about online casino gaming, the process seems slower?

To compare, there are more than 30 states that offer online sports betting (correct me if I am wrong here), but there are only 7 states that offer iGaming. This year I think only Rhode Island went live with iGaming.

So what is holding these states back and why are they moving at a slower pace than online sports betting, considering iGaming is actually more profitable in other betting markets?

Gambling has come up again in legislative meetings in Alabama. It seems like the House and Senate are ignoring one other once again.

The issue, which has evaded attempts at settlement for decades, is being considered by legislators. A senator has stated his intention to introduce a measure that addresses the matter comprehensively, but no legislation has been submitted as of Wednesday afternoon. On the other hand, members of Congress have stated their intention to uphold the legislation as it is.
